Does the EIDL Have a Personal Guarantee ?

As businesses across the country are struggling to stay afloat during the economic downturn caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, many business owners are turning to the Economic Injury Disaster Loan (EIDL) program for assistance. But does the EIDL have a personal guarantee?

Melanie Laurent

The answer is yes and no. The EIDL does indeed require a personal guarantee for loans over $200,000, but the guarantee does not apply to loans of $200,000 or less. This means that if you take out a loan of $200,000 or less, you won't be required to personally guarantee the loan. However, if you take out a loan of more than $200,000, then you will be required to provide a personal guarantee.

It's important to note that the EIDL program is not a grant, and you will be required to repay the loan in full. That said, the EIDL does offer some protections for those who are unable to repay their loans. For instance, the Small Business Administration (SBA) will not pursue collection actions against the personal assets of the borrower if the loan is not repaid in full.

How much are you looking for?

In addition, the EIDL loan program is designed to be as flexible as possible. For instance, the interest rate on the loan is fixed and the repayment terms can be extended up to a maximum of 30 years. This flexibility can help businesses manage their cash flow and make loan repayment more manageable.

All in all, the EIDL program can be a great resource for businesses in need of financial assistance. However, it is important to understand the terms and conditions of the loan, including the personal guaranteed requirement, before applying. By doing so, businesses can ensure that they are getting the most out of the program and avoid any issues down the line.

To learn more about the EIDL program and the personal guaranteed requirements, please contact your local SBA office or visit the SBA website. Additionally, you can contact a financial advisor or a qualified attorney to discuss your particular situation in more detail. Ultimately, taking the time to understand the EIDL program and its requirements before applying can ensure that you get the most out of the program.
